the past when armed junks have combined forces and, when

our strength has been small, have taken advantage of the

fact to attack us, with facualties resulting on our

side:-

(a) when the attempt was made to search a Chinese motor

vessel towing a large junk in Honghai Bay, fire was

opened by machine-gun and one inspection officer was

wounded and a seaman killed.

(b) When an inspection party was sent to search a junk

at Shenhu (

), they were fired on from the junk

and a seaman was wounded.

(c) When a search was about to be carried out of a

steam-vessel and a junk at Heiangehanpu (

) fire

was opened from the steam-vessel and a seaman was wounded.
